8 Common Questions About Influencer Marketing and Brand Partnerships

8 common questions about influencer marketing and brand partnerships

When it comes to working in digital media, I guess you can say I was “influenced” – and by that, I mean inspired to act.

As a Digital Media Associate, I have worked with numerous clients across retail, hospitality, F&B and automotive, among others. My role and background as a social media coordinator for hospitality brands have enabled me to harness the unique power of thoughtful influencer brand partnerships to effectively highlight our clients’ events, products, programs and openings.

Want to know how strategic influencer relations can benefit your business?

Here’s my feedback on 8 common questions I’m asked:

1. Why is influencer marketing effective?

People are more likely to trust recommendations from someone they feel is authentic and relatable; influencer marketing is effective because it leverages the trust and rapport that influencers have built with their audiences. It also allows brands to reach highly targeted audiences that may be difficult to engage with through traditional advertising. When done right, influencer marketing blends brand messaging with an influencer’s unique voice, creating content that resonates more deeply with the audience.

2. What makes a successful influencer campaign?

Trust and authenticity are the foundation of any effective influencer campaign. When an influencer’s followers believe they are recommending something because they genuinely like or believe in it, the impact and ROI is much greater.

3. What’s your process for guiding content that feels natural while not micromanaging an influencer?

I think it’s important to start with clear communication and then share a detailed brief that outlines the client’s goals, key messages and brand voice. That said, I allow room for creative freedom. Influencers know their audience best; I trust them to create content that resonates with their followers. We collaborate on the big picture, ensuring alignment on messaging, but I avoid being overly prescriptive in format or tone. I foster a partnership where the influencer feels empowered to create authentic content while meeting the brand’s needs.

4. How do you measure success?

I look at a combination of quantitative and qualitative metrics. KPIs such as engagement rates (likes, comments, shares), click-through rates, and conversions are important to assess the direct impact of a campaign. However, I also consider brand sentiment and audience feedback. Sometimes, the most valuable results are intangible, such as shifts in brand perception or increased awareness in a specific demographic.

5. How do you think micro influencers can play a role in branding strategies?

Smaller creators or niche influencers are incredibly valuable, especially when it comes to targeting highly specific audiences. They tend to have very engaged communities who trust their recommendations. By partnering with these influencers, brands can connect with a targeted group of consumers who are genuinely interested in their products or services.  The key is identifying influencers whose values, interests and audience align with the brand – even if they don’t have millions of followers.

6. How will influencer marketing be affected by the potential TikTok ban?

This potential ban has served as a valuable reminder – for both businesses and influencers/creators – that you should never rely on one platform alone. As the saying goes, it’s best not to have all your eggs in one basket!

7. What’s your advice for brands/clients interested in working with influencers?

For me, it’s crucial to pick the right influencer – one who goes beyond KPIs. The influencers I work with for one client wouldn’t necessarily be aligned with another. Consider the influencer’s audience and pay attention to how they speak about the brand/product. Do they actually like it? Again, you want to ensure the partnership is authentic – audiences will see right through a forced promotion.

8. What are some tried-and-true tips for making the most of an influencer partnership?

Be mindful of the influencer’s schedule and life. Are they a busy parent? Create a family-friendly itinerary, as we did for a holiday campaign with influencer Danielle Duque and our #GoodClient Lincoln Road.

Incorporate multiple clients at once when appropriate. For example, if you have a transportation client and a restaurant client, perhaps you can create a single itinerary that includes partnerships with both clients.

Stay in touch with influencers. Follow them, engage with their posts, and loop them in on the success of their client partnership. A little extra appreciation can go a long way.

Get creative with holidays and special events, as we did for the Valentine’s Day and Super Bowl partnerships below! The key to successfully leveraging holidays is to execute ideas that feel unique and authentic to both the influencer and brand.
