Fortis VP of Nursing Discusses the History of American Nursing Education

Nursing students today are taught to revere Florence Nightingale, who is heralded as the mother of nursing and the originator of modern nursing education. She is often credited with founding the field of nursing but in truth nursing has been around as long as humans have, as have the institutions that train them. 

Elaine Foster, PhD, MSN, RN, vice president for Fortis Colleges and Institutes, discussed the need for registered nurses in a recent interview with NursingColleges.com saying that there is a need for more people in the nursing profession – not less.
