After searching the country for the perfect warm-weather destination to retire, James and Carol Ignacek packed their bags, flew nearly 2,000 miles from New Mexico, and relocated to Vi at Aventura this past January. The Ignaceks knew the Vi was the ideal place to enjoy their third chapter of life. They loved the community’s panoramic views, vibrant lifestyle and security.
James admits he was reluctant to retire to Florida and wondered how he would spend his time after decades of balancing family, a career in chemical engineering and then aerospace defense, and volunteering. As for Carol, moving to Florida seemed a welcome change of pace after a career in finance, raising four children, and volunteering with various organizations like the Girl Scouts, preparing income taxes for the elderly, and delivering “Meals on Wheels.”
Since moving to the Vi, the couple now focus on staying fit, developing and maintaining relationships, and just having fun!
Staying Fit
“You gotta keep moving,” Carol says. The couple walks outside for about an hour every day. Sometimes, their walks lead to a local restaurant or the public library. James enjoys swimming at the Vi’s indoor pool and golfing with his fellow residents at the Miami Shores Country Club. The Ignaceks also enjoy taking the stairs for some extra exercise.
Maintaining Family Relationships & a Social Life
With four children in three different states, the couple focuses on staying connected to family. They are excited to attend their daughter’s wedding in Colorado this June. Their social life remains active as well. The Ignaceks often plan dinner with new friends from the Vi, and James attends a weekly men’s luncheon organized by a fellow resident. Carol missed her large personal garden in New Mexico, so she joined Vi’s garden club, as well as the book club. When discussing getting involved, Carol explains, “that’s how you get to meet people.”
