Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Goldberg.
Barbara, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was a student at University of Miami in the 80’s, I discovered a passion for PR – it blended all the disciplines I loved: journalism, creativity and communications. I dove right in and never looked back. I interned at three Miami PR firms during my last two years of school and it further solidified my interest in the field – I could not wait to start my career. Shortly after graduation, I landed a job with Hank Meyer Associates, the top firm in Florida at the time. At HMA, I cut my teeth on all the basics and honed my skills while working with incredibly talented PR practitioners in the field (…yes, using typewriters and rolodexes!) There, I worked with Jim O’Connell, one with the most creative PR executives I had ever met and we produced an array of innovative PR campaigns for our clients. I began to embrace my inner-entrepreneurial spirit and, at the ripe age of 27 — I mustered up the nerve to suggest to Jim that we take this great formula and launch our own firm. To my delight, Jim said he was thinking the same thing – and the rest was history. We grew O&G together over the next two decades – working with some of the greatest brands – and people – throughout the state. Jim has since retired, but O&G continues to remain a strong, reputable creative shop working with forward-thinking clients.
Has it been a smooth road?
I believe strongly that “Good People Make Good News.” Our greatest challenge is to always uncover those good, talented people along the way. We’ve built a great team, but it’s because we are very particular in our selection process. We have a high bar. That will never change.

The world has enough bad news already. All too often, it’s the negative that seems to draw the attention. Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The communications field has changed enormously and the trends will continue to evolve. We have morphed from PR practitioners to storytellers and content creators. I see our industry working more with targeted niche influencers over the masses and our scope of services adopting a multi-platform approach for shareable experiences. It will require us to be ahead of the curve in terms of knowing all the platforms to keep our content as part of the ongoing news cycle.
