WATERBURY, Conn. – The National Institute of Medicine recommends 80 percent of nurses have baccalaureate degrees by 2020 (The Future of Nursing: Focus on Education, October 2010). With that in mind, Post University in Waterbury, Conn., has launched an online RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing/RN-BSN degree program as a new resource for nursing students and working RNs in Connecticut and the Northeast.

An award-winning online and campus-based education and continuing professional development provider, Post University is addressing emerging community health needs through this advanced nursing program.

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is an important consideration for nursing students because it typically is required for nurse administrator positions in most hospitals. Additionally, an increasing number of hospitals have begun recruiting only nurses with BSNs.

“Our online RN to BSN program not only is the next step for area nursing students and graduates, it is tailored to all working RNs who are interested in continued growth and advancement,” said Post University President Donald W. Mroz, Ph.D. “The program will be of particular interest to hospitals and clinics throughout the region with registered nurses on staff who need BSNs to fill leadership positions.

“Through our online RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing/RN-BSN program, Post University offers these registered nurses the flexibility to maintain a regular work schedule while continuing their studies for advanced career opportunities at their current places of employment.”

The program encompasses advanced nursing concepts that enable prospective nurse leaders to enhance critical thinking aptitudes and develop the leadership and management skills required of today’s senior nursing professionals. According to Dr. Mroz, it will produce advanced nursing candidates who can contribute to the community by filling evolving healthcare needs.

Post University is now enrolling students in the program. More information is available at www.post.edu/online-education, or by calling 800.660.6615.
