Medtech Celebrates Pros “At the Heart of Healthcare” During Medical Assistants Recognition Week
ATLANTA — Medtech Colleges and Institutes are celebrating Medical Assistants Recognition Week, Oct. 20-24, by honoring these professionals for being “At the Heart of Healthcare.”
A prominent healthcare education company in the fields of nursing and medical assisting, Medtech campuses will take a leading role, joining with the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) to raise awareness about the important role medical assistants fill in the delivery of healthcare every day.
Throughout National Medical Assistants Recognition Week, Medtech campuses will host special events to honor their students and graduates for filling such a crucial healthcare role.
Schools will honor Medical Assistant (MA) graduates who return to campus and provide current students with career insights and advice. Campuses also will feature hands-on demonstrations of medical assistant skill sets, including phlebotomy and inoculations, with some challenging media and business/clinical partners to perform the procedures on medical mannequins. Those accepting the challenge will be recognized as “Medtech Medical Assistants for a Day.”
“Medical assisting is an important, in-demand career nationwide. As a result, we offer Medical Assistant programs at every Medtech campus,” said Medtech President Bobby Reese. “MAs are the backbone of healthcare and it’s our job to provide the education and hands-on training that enables students to succeed in this critical field.”
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook released this year projects solid employment opportunities in medical assisting based on an expected 29 percent job growth through 2022. In fact, the BLS estimates total MA employment will hit 723,700 by 2022, up nearly 163,000 over 2012’s figures.
“The need for more medical assistants is not decreasing…in fact, it will continue to rise over the next eight to 10 years,” Reese added. “It’s a growing need our graduates can help fill.”
Medtech campuses are nationally accredited and several also offer diplomas and/or degrees in nursing, along with training in other allied-health professions.
