“Gum For A Cause” Participants Hold Packaging Party
AVENTURA, Fla. — In November, Aventura periodontist Dr. David G. Genet launched “Gum For A Cause,” an initiative aimed at supporting our military men and women overseas by promoting good oral health among the troops.
Dr. Genet believes good health begins with the mouth so, with Gum For A Cause, he spearheaded the collection of donated packages of sugar-free gum from his patients and the public to be added to gift bags of toothbrushes, toothpaste and dental floss that will be given to a Florida National Guard unit that is deploying overseas.
Residents of the Vi at Aventura, Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High School, and North Miami Beach dentist Dr. Mark Weiss signed on as co-sponsors of Gum For A Cause joining Dr. Genet and his staff in collecting sugarless gum. Donations were accepted through Jan, 23, and now all the participants will gather on Thursday, Jan. 29, to package more than 100 gift bags that will be sent to troops along with hand-written letters from students.
“Traditionally, National Dental Health Month is observed in February, so it is appropriate that we share the generosity of friends and neighbors with our military during that this time,” Dr. Genet said. “We thank everyone who supported the cause, especially Via at Aventura, our student volunteers, Dr. Weiss and the Aventura Marketing Council…just as we thank our military men and women for their bravery and service.”
Gum For A Cause gift bags will be assembled during a special packaging party at 3 p.m. on Jan. 29 at Vi at Aventura, located at 19333 West Country Club Drive, Aventura, FL 33180. A group of ROTC cadets from Dr. Michael Krop High School will attend and represent the National Guard unit, which currently is on active duty status, training for their deployment.
The cadets will be welcomed by Dr. Genet, members of his staff and their families, residents of the Vi at Aventura, Alonzo and Tracy Mourning High School students and Dr. Weiss.
