Fortis Institute-Cookeville Surgical Technology Program Honored for 100% Pass Rate on National Certification Exam
Campus Receives NBSTSA Merit Award for August 2015-July 2016
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Fortis Institute in Cookeville’s Surgical Technology program graduates were among the nation’s tops during the last year.
The school’s Surgical Technology program received the annual Certificate of Merit award from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) for a 100-percent pass rate on the National Certification Exam between August 1, 2015 and July 31, 2016. All graduates of the Cookeville program taking the exam during that period achieved Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) status.
Certification as a surgical technologist exhibits professional pride, the desire to be recognized for mastering surgical competencies, and an ongoing commitment to quality patient care. A CST rating is required for employment as a surgical technologist by many local, state and national health care organizations.
In a letter announcing the honor, NBSTSA Chief Executive Officer Ben Price recognized the campus as a leader in the field of surgical technology education, saying: “I would like to congratulate Fortis Institute-Cookeville for achieving a 100% graduate pass rate on the Certified Surgical Technologist examination.”
According to Fortis Institute–Cookeville President James Williamson, this latest honor is a reflection of the campus’ commitment to providing students the best learning environment possible.
“Our Surgical Technology program engages students and provides them with the knowledge and skills to work with and under the supervision of surgeons and registered nurses,” Williamson adds. “The training provided by our faculty helps prepare these surgical tech students to become a part of the highly skilled teams that care for patients during crucial periods of surgery.”
In addition to the Cookeville, Tenn., area, Fortis Institute draws Surgical Technology students from the surrounding communities as well as southern Kentucky.
