Fortis College in Indianapolis Granted ACEN Accreditation for Its Associate Degree in Nursing Program

INDIANAPOLIS — The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program at Fortis College in Indianapolis has been granted initial accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), formerly the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The nursing program accreditation is effective for five years, through Fall 2018.

ACEN accreditation was approved by the Board of Commissioners at its March meeting based on findings by the ACEN site visit team last fall. In her notification letter, ACEN Chief Executive Officer Sharon Tanner, EdD, MSN, RN, congratulated Fortis on its “outstanding achievement.”

“This is huge win for our campus and a great day for our students, graduates and staff!” said Campus President James Cox, DMin, MBA. “We consider ACEN accreditation to be one of the ‘gold standards’ of nursing accreditations and one that enables our students to do their clinical studies at a wider range of top-notch facilities and our graduates to seek employment at all of Indiana’s major hospital networks.”

In fact, Cox added that “several major nursing organizations already have responded positively to this news from the campus” and now wish to have Fortis College-Indianapolis nursing students perform clinical rotations at their facilities after learning about the ACEN approval.

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing is nationally recognized as a specialized accrediting agency for post-secondary and higher degree programs in nursing education and responsible for the specialized accreditation of nursing education programs (Clinical Doctorate, Master’s Degree, Baccalaureate Degree, Associate Degree, Diploma, and Practical Nursing program). ACEN has authority and accountability for carrying out the responsibilities inherent in the application of standards and criteria, accreditation processes and policy-making, among other duties.

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) is located at 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326. To reach ACEN, call 404-975-500 or visit www.acenursing.org.

One of the largest nursing education providers in the U.S., the Fortis network of schools, which also includes the Denver School of Nursing and St. Paul’s Schools of Nursing, encompasses more than 5,000 nursing students nationwide and operates over 38 nursing programs in 13 states. Fortis Colleges and Institutes have received international recognition for their leadership in using simulation technology to educate nursing students. Fortis nursing programs create supportive learning environments for students who will become tomorrow’s nurses.
