Fortis College in Cincinnati Hosts Welding Open House
CINCINNATI — Fortis College, a healthcare and skilled trades career training provider in Cincinnati, Ohio, held a Welding Technology Program Open House from 3:30 – 6 p.m. on March 28,
Business partners and members of the public were invited to attend the event, held in Building B on the Fortis College campus, 11499 Chester Road in Cincinnati.
Open house attendees had an opportunity to tour the facility, including the welding labs; try on welding safety gear such as helmets, gloves, etc., and learn about the tools and lab equipment to help picture themselves in a welding career. Skilled welding instructors and the program director were on hand to answer questions and perform demonstrations. Appetizers and refreshments also were served during the open house event.
Because of the bonding strength welds provide, welding is used in a variety of fields, including shipbuilding, automobile manufacturing and repair, and aerospace applications, among thousands of activities, meaning welders may find work in a number of industries, from car racing to manufacturing.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2014-15 Edition (published Jan. 8, 2014), employment of welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers is projected to grow approximately six percent per year through 2022, noting that skilled welders with up-to-date training should have good job opportunities.
“One of the newer offerings on campus, our welding technology program teaches welding applications, craft skills, and career development techniques to train individuals for entry into the field of welding as industrial welders, welding apprentices or check welders,” says Campus President Bill McGuire. “The open house was an excellent way to learn more about the many career opportunities in welding and which options may be right for you.”
