Campus to Host Hands-On Health Clinic Lab, Fete Medical Assisting Students

ESSINGTON, Pa. – All-State Career School in Essington will recognize its Medical Assisting students for being “at the heart of health care” during Medical Assistants Recognition Week, October 19-23.

“Medical assistants – or MAs – are multi-skilled allied health professionals who are central figures in delivering quality health care on a daily basis by performing a wide range of administrative and clinical roles in physician’s offices, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities,” said Campus President Edward Rito. “To show our admiration and appreciation for all they do, our Medical Assisting students will be given special recognition throughout the week.”

Medical Assistants Recognition Week posters will be displayed in campus hallways and MA students will receive recognition pins, note pads, and pens to kick off the week. The campus also will host two special events for its Medical Assisting students on Oct. 21-22:

• Beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, MA students will conduct a health care clinic lab that includes practicing/demonstrating common activities, such as taking blood pressure readings and checking glucose and cholesterol levels.
NOTE: Attending media are invited to test their MA skills as part of the demonstrations.

Lab Day” on Oct. 21 also will include education-related sessions during which MA students will hand out health information pamphlets they created especially for the event to visitors and participants.

• At 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, Campus President Edward Rito will proclaim the day as “Medical Assistants Day.” All MA students will be treated to cupcakes, with individual students recognized for excellence in leadership, clinical, and professional skills.

“Medical assistants make a substantial contribution to the quality of health care in Northeastern Pennsylvania and across the country,” adds Medical Assistant/Medical Billing and Coding Department Chair Kenya Chesney RMA, CPI. “We hope the community will join us in honoring these vital members of their healthcare teams.”
