CENTERVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) – Free dental screenings were held Saturday for kids in the Centerville community. The dental assisting program at Fortis College in Centerville offered free dental check-ups, teeth cleanings, and other procedures to children.

The event is part of the American Dental Association’s “Give Kids a Smile” initiative which provides free oral health services to under-served children. Emilie Shields, Director of the Dental Assisting Program at Fortis College, says, “So today they’re getting their exams and check ups, they’re going to get their teeth cleaned, they’re getting X-rays and if they are good candidates they’re going to get sealants which is to seal their teeth so they don’t get cavities.”

The ADA says the “Give Kids a Smile” program has served more than 5 million underserved children since it began  in 2003.
