Without a doubt, last night’s Big Game gave us some incredible, goosebump-inducing moments. The Falcons looked as though they’d continue to crush the Patriots with a 21-3 score heading into the second half, Lady Gaga wowed us with the first-ever halftime show to utilize hundreds of drones to light up the night sky and let’s not forget the “miracle catch” by Julian Edelman that made jaws drop – no matter who you were rooting for.
While the excitement from this year’s game is arguably unparalleled, it’s often the hilarious, moving and thought-provoking ads that are the focus of conversation come Monday morning. Here are some of O&G’s favorite picks:
Budweiser – “Born the Hard Way”
Sophia Fiat – “Beer is a big part of American culture – this commercial was a nice reminder that many of the products Americans consume originated from other countries. Every product’s history has a story to tell and the American Dream is a powerful driving force that many of us forget.”
Thalia Ramirez – “I liked Budweiser’s pro-immigration message in its “Born the Hard Way” commercial. I thought it was inspiring.”
Honda CR-V – “Yearbooks”
Matt Levinson – “I thought the Honda CR-V ‘Yearbooks’ ad was ingenious. I loved the way they used CGI to bring some of my favorite celebrities’ high school photos to life.”
It’s a 10 – “Four Years”
Kendra Mahon – “It’s clearly a not-so-subtle nod to our new Commander-in-Chief, but I love the important message the spot carries while being silly at the same time. Also, I think it’s great that a smaller haircare brand who competes with the likes of L’Oreal & Pantene really stepped it up with something so high-quality and bold to set itself apart.”
Skittles – “Romance”
Jeff Bray – “The Skittles spot. It was weird & wacky enough to stand out…and it had a groundhog catching Skittles in his mouth. Woo hoo.”
Turbo Tax – “Humpty Hospital”
Nicole Birnbaum – “The TurboTax commercial was really funny and realistic at the same time. It reminded me of when I was a kid, showing the tale of Humpty Dumpty, but this time he is facing the struggle of paying taxes…super clever!”
84 Lumber – “The Entire Journey”
Barbara Goldberg – “Wow.”
